Coleman-New Braunfels' History

  • New Braunfels was selected as a second Coleman manufacturing site because of the availability of manpower, land, transportation infrastructure (interstate highway and rail) and a favorable local business atmosphere.

  • Other than a textile manufacturer (now closed), Coleman helped usher in the era of industrial development for the community of New Braunfels.

  • During the 1980s, Coleman New Braunfels pioneered some new processes in plastics that greatly improved the plastics operations throughout Coleman.

  • Coleman New Braunfels instituted, installed and tested the bulk urethane system that all of Coleman now uses in plastics operations.

  • New Braunfels pioneered for Coleman the method of continuous pour into heads, which prevented plastic from setting up in the heads and eliminated the need to clean the heads after every pour; and also the use of water to clean the heads instead of solvents.

  • Coleman New Braunfels introduced the manufacture of the T/E coolers, which continue to be manufactured exclusively in New Braunfels.

  • Coleman New Braunfels introduced the 100-quart cooler, the 62-quart wheeled cooler and the 70-quart cooler. The facility also introduced the Ultimate™ Xtreme® Cooler.

  • Coleman New Braunfels and all of The Coleman Company, Inc. practice Continuous Improvement as an on-going program. With the introduction of Six Sigma, new Continuous Improvement evaluation tools have been used for approximately the past five years.

  • Coleman New Braunfels has maintained a strong safety record during its operation and strong compliance ratings in environmental auditing. The facility had no days-away cases from February 2001 through the end of 2004.
